Workshop: Navigating the Space of Surfaces

The space of all conformally immersed 2-tori in 3-space is the phase space of an integrable system and the same holds for spaces of special surfaces, like those with constant mean curvature or Willmore surfaces. The question to what extent similar theories can be developed for other topological types of surfaces is an important open problem. Navigation in such spaces of surfaces via natural flows, such as the Willmore flow, is a challenging task for experimental mathematics as well as an important tool for proving theorems in pure mathematics. One of the goals of the workshop is to initiate communication between the corresponding communities.
