Call for Proposals: Trimester Programs
A proposal for a Trimester Program should be written in such a way that the members of the Scientific Advisory Board get a clear picture of the state of the art and the aims of the program. The Institute is open for all areas of mathematics, mathematical economics, and mathematical physics. Given the different cultures of these areas the Institute gives a lot of freedom how to compose a program. However, the organization of a summer respectively winter school for students during the Trimester Program is obligatory. There will be three programs in the period between September and August: the fall program from September to December, the winter program from January to April, and the summer program from May to August.
The following scheme has turned out to be successful. We have office space for about 30 people. The idea is to fill these places with about 10 senior scientists, 10 postdocs, and 10 PhD students. It is very important for the success of a program to make sure that at any time there are enough senior scientists participating in the program. Thus a proposal should contain names of senior scientists who come for longer periods (at least one month). Applicants should contact such people and ask them whether they would come for a longer period if the program is approved. It would be good to attach mails from these colleagues where they give a positive answer. In addition, the contact data of all organizers including the current academic status and the affiliation should be listed. After the program is approved we ask the applicants to update the information about participating senior scientists. The Institute will then send out invitations to them. We will write the names of these people on the website, which will be published on the poster announcing the program. On the same website we ask postdocs and PhD students for applications.
HIM encourages proposals which have the potential to establish new collaboration across different research communities, either within mathematics or between mathematics and its applications. Organizing teams which make the case that recent scientific developments demonstrate such potential may apply for a "Dual Trimester Program".
The deadline for next submitting a proposal will the end of September 2023. The decision of the Scientific Advisory Board will be made at the end of January 2024. The Scientific Advisory Board decides about three programs taking place in the period between September 2025 and August 2026. The Institute wishes to increase the number of female participants. In view of this policy, proposals with at least one female organizer are strongly encouraged.
Proposals can be sent in at any time until September 30. They should be sent (preferably by e-mail) to:
