Arithmetic and Geometry

Hausdorff Trimester Program

January 2 - April 19, 2013

Organizers: G. Faltings, D.R. Heath-Brown, Yu.I. Manin, and B.Z. Moroz

The main theme of the trimester is the interplay of di fferent methods used in modern number theory. We wish to emphasise the new results and conjectures in arithmetic geometry, having direct bearing on the classical numbertheoretic problems. The proceedings volume, which we intend to publish, should summarise investigations and discussions during the trimester. Two sessions, on the recently proved Serre conjecture from the 15th of January until the 14th of February (organisers: L. Dieulefait and J-P. Wintenberger) and on counting rational points on algebraic varieties from the 15th of March until the 14th of April (organiser: D.R. Heath-Brown), as well as a couple of shorter workshops, several seminars, and mini-courses are to be organized. The trimester culminates in a research conference from the 15th until the 19th of April.

Those planning to attend include: V. Abrashkin, T.T. Berger, R. de la Bretèche, T. Browning, J. Brüdern, H. Carayol, J-L. Colliot-Thélène, F. Diamond, U. Derenthal, T. Gee, D. Geraghty, S.O. Gorchinskii, M. Harris, A. Kresch, D.V. Osipov, A.N. Parshin, P. Salberger, A. Skorobogatov, R. Taylor, Yu. Tschinkel, T. Wooley.

Call for participation: The Hausdorff Research Institute offers visiting positions for the whole period of the trimester program (for senior scientists, postdocs, and PhD students). The deadline for applications is April 16, 2012. Please send applications (including CV and, for postdocs and PhD students, a letter of recommendation) preferably using our online application form or by e-mail to the Director of HIM, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Lück (applications-ag(at)him.uni-bonn.de). In addition numerous fellowships for shorter periods are available.
