Programs

Research at HIM is devoted to all areas of mathematics, mathematical economics, and interactions of mathematics with other sciences. It is carried out by guest scientists who take part in one of the programs at HIM:

Hausdorff Trimester Program (HTP)

During a Hausdorff Trimester Program which lasts four months the Institute invites a group of mathematicians from all over the world to carry out research with a special emphasis on cooperative activities. The Institute can host up to 30 mathematicians at any time and tries to distribute these places between senior mathematicians, postdocs and PhD students. The program is based on an application by a group of leading mathematicians. The applications are decided by the Scientific Advisory Board. Topics for Hausdorff Trimester Programs can come from all areas of mathematics, mathematical economy, and mathematical physics. During the programs one or the other workshop is organized as well as perhaps lecture series or schools.

Junior Hausdorff Trimester Program (Junior HTP)

The Institute selects a broad mathematical area and calls for applications of groups of excellent young scientists (Post Docs, Junior Faculty), who want to carry out collaborative research. Individual applications are also allowed but only approved if the Institute can form a small research group from these applicants. The participants can organize small workshops and can take the initiative to invite a senior mathematician with whom they can carry out research together.

Research in Groups (RinG)

The idea of this program is to give small groups of at least three people the chance to carry out research at the institute. We are open to a very flexible use of this program. What we don’t want is just a workshop. The intention should be towards new research. Interaction between the participants should be central and an application should make clear how this can be successfully achieved. Duration of the program can be up to three months and not shorter than one month (which in exceptional cases can be divided into two halves).
